Prologue

On April 28th, 2013, we are leaving Calgary to spend two months in the south of France (Le Sud de France).
Although we just got home after spending three months (Jan, Feb & March) in Palm Desert, California, one would understand why we are once again "hitting the road" after seeing the following picture of Robin back in Calgary on April14th, 2013.
We are flying into Amsterdam, then catching the Thalys (high speed train) from Schipol Airport into Paris, which takes three hours. A couple of days in Paris, then the TGV to Nice which takes about 5 1/2 hours. If anyone has travelled by high speed train you will know that this is a very comfortable way to travel. Very efficient, quick, smooth and comfortable. It is only when another train passes, that you realize how fast you are really going. The average speed of theTGV is up to 320 km/h (200 mph).
We will be spending the month of May in Nice, where we have rented a 1 bedroom apartment in West Nice, just a block from the beach and Les Promenades des Anglais (a walkway all along the Nice beachfront).
Then in June, we will travel 6 hours further west and spend the month in a two bedroom gite in the town of Mazamet, one hour north of Carcassone, an ancient walled city.
While in Mazamet we are expecting Robin's sister, Suzanne and her husband Colin, who live in England, to visit for a few days. Also Claire's sister-in-law, Brenda will be spending the last couple of weeks with us. Then the three of us will fly back to Amsterdam where we will be doing a bike/barge trip of Northern Holland for a week. We will be joined by Brenda's youngest daughter/our niece Molly for the bike tour. After the bike trip we will all spend 3 final days in Amsterdam, then back home on July 9th.
We are looking forward to this latest adventure and hope that some of our friends and family will join along vicariously, by following this blog !
